2 teens shot in Palatine, police say

PALATINE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are investigating a shooting that happened in northwest suburban Palatine Friday morning.

Two teenage boys were shot outside a clubhouse and sustained non-life threatening injuries, police said. The shooting happened just before 11 a.m. in the 1100-block of Randville Drive.

Cell phone video captured neighbors rushing to the aid of both victims after they heard several gunshots.

"I only saw two kids and one was screaming really hard so I grabbed water," said Saleha Masood, a woman who helped the victims. "I couldn't do much. I didn't have any first aid other than just close the wound, help him out so the blood would stop coming out."

Both victims were shot in the leg. One boy was taken to Northwestern Community Hospital and the other was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, the Palatine Fire Department said.

The Palatine Police Department said schools in Districts 15 and 211 were on a soft lockdown during the afternoon due to the shooting.

It is unclear what led up to the shooting or whether the boys were targeted. No arrests have been made.

"We have our investigators assigned to the incident and they will be investigating, conducting interviews, following up on tips doing whatever they can do to solve this," said Commander Craig Lesselyoung of the Palatine Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Palatine Police Department at 847-359-9000.
