EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A female Northwestern University graduate student was robbed and sexually assaulted Tuesday night near the campus in Evanston.

The incident occurred at about 9: 30 p.m. in a multi-unit residential building in the 1900-block of Ridge Avenue.

The 24-year-old victim said the offender was knocking on the door of the building. She let the man inside, thinking that he was a resident, and entered the elevator with him.

While on the elevator the man started to grope her and reach under her clothing. She screamed, but the offender battered her and threw her to the floor of the elevator.

When the door opened, the man ran away with the woman's wallet and cellphone.

The offender is described as being between 6-feet and 6-feet-4-inches tall and weighing between 190 and 230 pounds. The man was wearing a dark long-sleeve shirt, dark pants and was carrying a backpack.
