CHICAGO (WLS) -- Campus security said a DePaul University student was the victim of a strong-armed robbery Sunday night, not far from where a spate of armed robberies recently occurred.
Security officials said the student and his friend were walking in an alley in the 900-block of West Fullerton Avenue around 10 p.m. when they were approached by three people. They demanded he hand over his belongings.
Security officials said the student gave the group his wallet, but refused to hand over his phone, so one of the offenders punched them. The group then fled in different directions. DePaul officials said the student declined medical treatment and declined to report the robbery to Chicago police.
Chicago police are investigating six armed robberies in the area of DePaul's campus about a week ago.
