CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Trump administration announced their plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on September 5, leaving Congress to decide the fate of nearly 800,000 unauthorized immigrants protected under the program, known as DREAMers. The plan calls for a phase out of DACA over the next six months.

No new DACA applications can be submitted, but DACA recipients whose protections expire before March 5, 2018 can renew. The renewal must be done before October 5, 2017.

The City of Chicago's Office of New Americans has information about citizenship, rights of DACA recipients, and information about college access for undocumented immigrants. For the Office of New Americans website, visit www.cityofchicago.org.

One Chicago offers resources in legal services, naturalization assistance, mental health assistance, employer communications, and education for immigrants and refugees. For a full list of their resources and contact information, visit onechi.org.

The Heartland Alliance provides housing, healthcare, jobs, and legal services. For more information visit their website at heartlandalliance.org. The Heartland Alliance's National Immigration Justice Center provides legal services to low-income immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. DACA renewal must be done before October 5, 2017. For DACA recipients who wish to renew, they can do so at the following locations and times:
