Chicago area students collect toys to be given out at Chance the Rapper event

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago area high schoolers have pooled their efforts to collect toys for kids who might not otherwise get any this holiday season.

Chance the Rapper will hand out toys they collected this Wednesday night at the Field Museum during an event hosted the Rapper's Socialworks charity.

Student athletes from all over the Chicago area were up before dawn, loading thousands of toys in River Grove. They set aside their team rivalries to work together with Buddy's Helpers.

The non-profit organizes an annual service campaign called Making A Difference On And Off The Field. The teens collected more than ten-thousand toys and made cards for children and their families.

"This has been such a rewarding experience. Throughout the way, I've met so many amazing people. It doesn't feel like you're working hard when you're doing something all-together that you're passionate about," said Maine South student Angelina Moore.

Chance the Rapper will help pass them out during a special event at the Field Museum on Wednesday night. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Guests will have access to the museum's exhibits and they'll enjoy holiday activities. The celebration is being organized by chance's youth empowerment charity Social Works.
