Bronzeville shooting injures 4 teens near 49th, King Drive

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are investigating after three teens were shot in the Bronzeville neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses said someone opened fire on a van that was heading south on King Drive near 49th Street around 3:45 p.m. At least 19 bullet holes could be seen in the van.

"When I was getting in my vehicle, I heard like 20, like 22 shots. And I came out, and I seen the van, and I seen the kids get out. And everybody was panicking, it was just chaos," said Tony, a witness who did not wish to provide his last name.

Police said two boys, ages 16 and 17, were shot in the back, and a 16-year-old boy was also shot in the thigh. They were taken to local hospitals, where their conditions have stabilized, police said.

Officials said a 15-year-old boy suffered a laceration to his shoulder by flying glass. His condition has also stabilized, police said.

Police said the same van that was shot up Tuesday afternoon had been spotted at another shooting earlier in the day in the 3700-block of S. Michigan. Police said two of the teens are known gang members.

No one involved is cooperating with investigators, police said.
