Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira play warriors in 'Black Panther'

LOS ANGELES (WLS) -- Fans are lining up at the box office throughout Chicago and all over the country to see Marvel's "Black Panther."

The film opened Thursday and has already broken ticket sales records.

Danai Gurira plays the most ferocious warrior in the film's kingdom of Wakanda.

"Honestly, sometimes you'd come to work and the stunning array of costumes and hair and beautiful dark skin everywhere, it was a complete new experience for me and it was a beautiful thing," said Gurira of the film.

Lupita Nyong'o's character, Nakia, leads Wakanda's King T'Challa - who is also the Black Panther - to a path of mastery and change.

"We got along, we made each other laugh between takes, we'd be goofing around and rap battles and freestyle," said Nyong'o of life on set. "And then we had drummers, often times the drummers between takes would just riff off and we'd all dance and have a moment. And that just doesn't happen on other sets."

"And you get paid for it, so every day you pinch yourself a little," Nyong'o said.

Nyong'o and Gurira have worked together on several films before "Black Panther."

"I think we just have a shared mission, a sense, a shared work ethic," said Gurira of Nyong'o.

"I marvel at the things she's able to do, no pun intended," Nyong'o added of Gurira.

"Black Panther" is produced by Disney, the parent company of ABC7.
