Chicago awarded $600M grant for early childhood education

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded Chicago a $600 million grant for early childhood education.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is expected announce the federal grant on Tuesday.

The money will go toward programming over the next five years, which includes tripling the number of full-day pre-kindergarten programs from 100 to 300 by 2019.
