Vandals paint black mask on DuSable bust

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A statue honoring a black pioneer was vandalized over the weekend.

On Sunday morning, it was discovered that the bust of Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable had a black mask painted over its eyes. Crews cleaned up the graffiti on Monday.

DuSable, a native of Haiti, is credited with opening Chicago's first trading post and settlement in the 1770s, near what is now the junction of the Chicago River and Michigan Avenue.
