2 women in parked vehicles targeted by robber in East Garfield Park

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are warning residents of Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood about two robberies that occurred a few blocks apart.

Authorities said the victims in both incidents were seated in parked vehicles when they were robbed.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 in the 100-block of South Hamlin Avenue, a suspect punched the female victim and stole her purse.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 in the 200-block of South Springfield Avenue, a suspect pulled out a firearm, but ran away without stealing the victim's purse.

Police released a vague description of an African American man in his late teens or early 20s who is between 5 ft. 2 in. and 5 ft. 9 in. tall and weighs between 120 and 180 lbs.
