Listen up ladies - having that third cup of coffee may decrease your risk of uterine cancer, according to a new study.
Researchers surveyed more than 300,000 women on their dietary patterns and then followed them for between 10 and 25 years. Women who consumed at least three cups of coffee daily had an 18% lower risk of developing endometrial cancer compared to women who drank less than a cup of coffee a day.
This study is associative - in other words, it cannot show that drinking more coffee is the causative factor in lower endometrial cancer risk, it may be that women who drink more coffee also have something else protective they do.
Also, there was a two- to six-year lag time between the time the women completed the dietary questionnaires and when researchers collected endometrial cancer data from their medical records - so it is possible that participants' diets (average coffee intake) changed during this lag time.
