PEORIA, Ill. (WLS) -- Caterpillar announced it will keep its global headquarters in Peoria after spending two years looking at other possible options.

Caterpillar announced the final decision at a ceremony in Peoria on Friday. It also said it will expand the current sites and add amenities, including walking and biking paths, and innovative workspaces.

Caterpillar has about 2,400 employees in the main headquarters and 800 others spread around downtown Peoria.

Gov. Bruce Rauner called the announcement an "outstanding day for Illinois and a great day for Peoria."
