Lawmakers push to cap Cook County bail bond fees

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A bipartisan group of Illinois lawmakers are pushing to cap the bail bond fees in Cook County.

Currently, 10 percent of posted bail is retained by the court clerk, regardless of the size of that bail. The new proposed measure would cap that fee at $100.

Supporters say the measure would help the large number of low-income and minority residents who make up the jail population.
