BNSF adds new safety measures for crude oil trains

CHICAGO (WLS) -- There are new changes to safety procedures in the wake of some high-profile train derailments that the I-Team has reported extensively.

BNSF railroad is slowing crude oil trains down to 35 miles an hour in cities with more than 100,000 people.

The railroad is also increasing inspections on its tracks near waterways.

The changes come after a derailment near the Mississippi River in Galena earlier this month and a fiery derailment in Canada nearly two years ago.
