CHICAGO (WLS) -- U.S. News and World Report ranked six Chicago Public High Schools among the top 10 high schools in the state of Illinois this year.

Northside College Prep was ranked No. 1, Walter Payton College Prep was ranked No. 2, Jones College Prep was ranked No. 3, Whitney M. Young Magnet was ranked No. 4, Lane Technical was ranked No. 6 and Lincoln Park High School was ranked No. 10. Additionally, three more Chicago schools were ranked in the top 20, with Uno Academy at No. 12, Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep at No. 16 and Lindblom Math & Science at No. 17.

Nationally, Northside College Prep ranked No. 15 and Walter Payton College Prep ranked No. 66.

"Chicago is the proud home to more of the top performing high schools than any city in the state," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "Today's report is further evidence of the progress being made by Chicago Public Schools and the bright future ahead for our students in college, career and life."

The rankings were decided by assessing overall student performance on state-required tests, how schools educated least-advantaged students and how well schools prepared students for college based on participation in and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, U.S. News and World Report said.

Chicago Public Schools is the nation's third-largest school district, serving 396,000 students in 665 schools.
