SKOKIE, Ill. (WLS) -- Service on the CTA Yellow Line will be suspended for at least several more weeks, according to CTA officials, as they work to repair an embankment that collapsed under tracks in Skokie, Ill.

The embankment gave way late Sunday, May 17, as the Water reclamation district was digging a new deep trench for a box culvert to handle the delivery and exit of wastewater at the treatment plant next door.

CTA officials say the site has been secured, the area has been stabilized and a platform base has been built for Com Ed to remove electrical poles damaged when the ground gave way. "The short term plan goals have been accomplished," CTA said.

But officials also said that is only the first stage of the process. Crews are now working on soil boring analysis, design, site preparation and equipment and material delivery, which will take approximately two weeks. CTA officials say the final stage of reconstruction will take several more weeks.

Yellow Line service will remain suspended until the repairs are complete.
