VALPARAISO, Ind. (WLS) -- A northwest Indiana woman woke up thinking her dog joined her in her bedroom, but instead she found a man next to her bed, police said.

When she spotted the intruder, he took off running out of her front door of her home in the 1700-block of Beech St. in Valparaiso. The woman's teenage daughter was sleeping in another room and was unharmed.

She allegedly told police she didn't lock her doors because she assumed her daughter would do it.
