Abena Joan Brown, Chicago arts pioneer, dies

Abena Joan Brown, the woman considered by many to be the mother of Chicago's black arts community, died Sunday.

The Chicago native was recognized internationally as a major force in theater and organizational and artistic development.

Brown served as president and founder of the eta Creative Arts Foundation for 40 years.

Services for Brown are still pending.
