MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WLS) -- A black bear has been spotted rifling through trash and bird feeders and even climbing onto the porch of a Michigan City, Ind., home.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said several residents reported seeing the animal in the Motts Park area on July 14. Police spotted the bear in a back yard, yelled at it, and it walked back into the woods where it disappeared.

Conservation agents are working with DNR biologists and local officials to determine how to handle the bear. Residents should secure food indoors. Anyone who comes across the animal should make a lot of noise and call police, officials said.
