LAKE BARRINGTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A 16-year-old girl is safe after being attacked while jogging Friday afternoon in the north suburbs.

According to the Lake County Sheriff, the man grabbed the teen from behind and tried to drag her into a wooded area on Lakeland Drive in unincorporated Lake Barrington. She was able to fight him off and run home.

The teen was not seriously hurt. The attacker got away and that has neighborhood residents concerned.

"My garage door, like I said, I normally leave it open all the time and my cars are semi-unlocked most of the time," said neighborhood resident Tom Kidd. "But yeah, I'm closing the garage door and make sure all the cars are locked up."

Investigators say the teen was wearing headphones and did not hear the attacker approaching.
