PHOTOS: Dozens arrested in Kensington drug sweep, suspects ID'd

KENSINGTON -- Philadelphia police say 68 people were arrested in a major drug sweep last week in the Kensington section.

The results of the operation were announced on Monday.

Investigators say the suspected drug dealers and buyers were arrested on Thursday and Friday.

Police say they seized $4,200 worth of heroin along with cocaine, crack cocaine and cash.

Police say 15 of the suspects came to Kensington in from the suburbs to buy drugs.

Captain Lee Strollo of the Narcotics Strike Force said they were mainly going after the buyers to control the demand.

"You want to get your buyer into a program and maybe the arrest is a wake-up call. Maybe it's a wake-up call for their family to get them the help they need so they don't end up here," Strollo said. "We certainly don't want to see them back in Philadelphia.

Strollo said 15 of the suspects were from the nearby suburbs and were most likely to be buying heroin.
