CHICAGO (WLS) -- Teachers, staff and parents rallied outside the Board of Education to protest budget cuts to Chicago Public Schools.

The Chicago Teachers Union says CPS is making cuts that negatively affect children by cutting resources and increasing the size of classes.

They also say CPS just cut 1,400 positions and eliminated 200 special education positions.

While teachers were rallying outside, the board of education was inside presenting their updated budget.

They approved bond authorizations for more than $1 billion, allowing projects already underway to be paid for. The bond authorizations also allows the refinancing of Chicago Public Schools' existing debt to help bring some budgetary relief.
