CHICAGO (WLS) -- Catholic Archbishop Blase Cupich is hoping to bring the Pope's recent environmental message to Chicago.

The archbishop met with the EPA administrator to share an environmental initiative and energy-saving programs that reflect the "Encyclical on Ecology" written by Pope Francis.

The meeting took place at old St. Mary's School in the South Loop which is powered in part by solar panels on its roof.

"In all humility, we've have this Earth on loan in our generation," Archbishop Cupich said. "And we have to make sure that we pass it on to the next generation with a sense of solid stewardship. "

Chicago's is the first U.S. Archdiocese to commit to bench-marking and tracking energy, water and emission performance.
