Girl, 15, fatally shot in Gary drive-by

GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- A 15-year-old girl was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Gary, Indiana.

Daja Brookshire, 15, was riding in a car near 7th Avenue and Adams Street Sunday night when several shots were fired from another vehicle, police said.

The other people in the car told officers that an unidentified vehicle had been tailing them for some time before the shooting occurred.

The driver took the teen to Methodist Northlake Hospital after he noticed she was bleeding. Police were called to the hospital around 9:30 p.m.

Brookshire, of the 800-block of North County Line Road in Gary, was pronounced dead at 11:24 p.m.

No one is in custody. Investigators are looking into the cause of the shooting.
