Chicago-bound flight lands in Indianapolis after mechanical issue

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A United Express flight from Charlotte to Chicago made a landing in Indianapolis after a mechanical issue, officials said.

United Express flight 5919, operated by the airline's regional partner ExpressJet, was carrying 50 passengers, two pilots and one flight attendant when it made the landing Sunday morning.

"We are working to accommodate our customers after the flight safely landed in Indianapolis due to a mechanical issue. The crew followed procedure to safely bring the aircraft to a lower altitude and land in Indianapolis," a spokesperson for ExpressJet said.

Officials say the airline is working to get passengers to their final destinations.
