GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson is proposing a pay bump for the city's police and firefighters.

Their pay would increase by $10,000 over three years.

Officers picketed city hall in September after not receiving raises for nearly a decade.

The mayor says the pay raises will require restructuring of the police and fire departments.

Gary currently has 204 police officers.
