Social security numbers and other private information for more than 1,000 people who work for the Illinois Department of Corrections was inadvertently released, officials confirmed Friday.

The name of employee at Lawrence and Dixon Correctional Centers, along with ranks, salaries and job duties were included in a response to a civilian's Freedom of Information Act request.

A department official said there is no indication that the information had been misused.

Gladyse C. Taylor, the department's acting director, sent a letter to the General Assembly informing them of the release of data. It said, in part, "Appropriate notification of this breach is being furnished to all persons involved. Further, we are taking steps to prevent potential future breaches of this nature, including a thorough review of how we respond to FOIA requests. It is our intention to see that episodes of this nature are not repeated at the Department."
