SKOKIE, Ill. (WLS) -- The first case of West Nile virus in a human in the Chicago area this year has been reported in Skokie

The Skokie Health Department says a 50-year-old woman is being released from the hospital Thursday after being admitted for a week to treat West Nile virus.

Skokie officials are reminding residents to take precautions against the virus including wearing insect repellent, not going outside at dawn or dusk unless they're wearing long sleeves and getting rid of standing water. The mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus are attracted to standing water.

This is the second human case of West Nile this year; the first was reported in St. Clair County on Wednesday.
