CHICAGO (WLS) -- Parents and teachers are protesting the reassignment of a South Side principal saying he's been great for their school.
The protesters gathered this morning outside Powell Academy on South Shore Drive where Derek Jordan had been principal since 2007. Supporters say a year after his arrival, Powell was taken off probation.
They say due process wasn't followed in the decision to reassign him and they question why it was done so close to the start of the new school year.
"He's gone above and beyond what we've asked him to do," said one protester. "From getting the new school to saving positions to making sure these kids want to be here."
No one from Chicago Public Schools responded to ABC7 Eyewitness News' request for comment.
