EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Officials in north suburban Evanston announced a new effort to reduce violence after a string of recent shootings.

The initiative comes after a shooting near Evanston Township High School earlier this week that forced the school into lockdown.

Police have created a violence reduction strategy which lets the community work with officers to reduce violence in neighborhoods.

More officers will be patrolling areas where recent shootings happened. Others will work to investigate tips and recover firearms.
