Chicago Weather: Area cleans up after storms bring heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning

CHICAGO (WLS) -- For residents throughout the Chicago area, Saturday was a day of cleanup after severe storms brought heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning Friday night and early Saturday morning.

ABC7 Meteorologist Cheryl Scott said radar indicated rotation in a strong thunderstorm located south of Chicago near Monee on Friday afternoon. A tornado touchdown was reported in unincorporated Frankfort around 4:45 p.m.

Chicago Heights experienced some flooding and downed trees and Will County Emergency Management said about 10 homes sustained minor roof damage.

Saturday afternoon strong winds triggered some big waves on Lake Michigan causing plenty of chop in those waters along Chicago's beaches.

The skies cleared up, the sun came out and temperatures began to feel like fall is creeping in.
