CHICAGO (WLS) -- It has been one year since the 606 Trail opened in Chicago. The trail will celebrate its anniversary this weekend.

On Tuesday, Chicago Alderman Brian Hopkins said he wants to extend the 606 Bloomington Trail eastward.

DNAInfo reports that under a proposed plan, it would go under the Kennedy Expressway, over the Chicago River and through the former Finkl steel mill site between the river and Clybourn.

The trail currently ends at Ashland Avenue.

Alderman Hopkins has not said how much the extension would cost or who would pay for it.
