ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Romeoville because Amazon is opening a fulfillment center there.

The center will be located at 1125 Remington Blvd. Amazon had been looking for a facility in the area for months but settled on the space on Remington Blvd. because of its size and because it's already built. The warehouse was originally used by Montgomery Ward.

Crews are currently working to retrofit the building to Amazon's specifications.

The fulfilment center will employee at least 600 people and supply customers across the Midwest with products.

Workers will pack and ship large items such as big-screen televisions and sports equipment to customers.

Right now Amazon is hiring for associate positions at the fulfillment center. The company told the village they want to be operational no later than October.

Those interested in applying can submit an application at amazon.com/mdwjobs
