Amtrak forced to cut Illinois service if Rauner budget cuts are approved

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Amtrak says it will be forced to cute service in Illinois if Gov. Bruce Rauner's budget cuts are approved.

Amtrak officials testified Thursday in front of a Senate appropriations committee.

Gov. Rauner's proposal calls for a $16 million decrease in funding to Amtrak.

Lawmakers have asked the rail service to come up with a cost saving plan to see if service cuts could be avoided with less funding.

If the budget cuts are approved, I-Dot would help decide which train routes would be affected.
