ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- An apparent property tax mix-up in Chicago's northwest suburbs led residents of one school district to speak out at a meeting Monday night in Elgin.

DuPage County residents in District U-46 say their property taxes have gone up - as much as 50 percent over the past two years. But the district also includes some Kane County residents who say their bills have gone down by the same amount.

The discrepancy allegedly happened because the Kane County Clerk's office made a mistake.

The discrepancy is slated to be fixed by charging DuPage County residents less and Kane County residents more, but not until next summer.
