Joel Mendoza charged in Forest Park crash that killed bicyclist Jeffery Schultz

MAYWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- Joel Mendoza, 21, of Berwyn, is charged in connection with a crash that killed bicyclist Jeffery Schultz in Forest Park.

Schultz, 41, of Forest Park, was struck and killed by a car while riding his bike in the 1400-block of Harlem Avenue in Forest Park on Sunday, June 1. Witnesses said the driver fled the scene.

Mendoza is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a death and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. His bond hearing was scheduled for June 5 at the Cook County Fourth Municipal District Courthouse in Maywood.
