LONG GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- Authorities are investigating an armed robbery at Buffalo Creek Forest Preserve in northwest suburban Long Grove Friday morning.

Authorities said a woman running on the trail southwest of the Checker Road entrance was threatened with a screwdriver and robbed.

Lake County Forest Preserve Police said the victim was not injured and her cell phone was recovered a block from the scene.

Police released a sketch of the suspect and described him as a short, heavy set male between 25-35 years old.

As the sun began to set Friday night, few people were still on the trail. Some said that parts of the trail are isolated.

"It's a pretty creepy trail, isolated," said Eddie Guzman.

Officers say that while the trails are generally safe, they suggest taking a cell phone, walking or running with a friend if possible, and to always be aware of your surroundings.

Authorities do not believe this incident is related to an attempted sexual assault at Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village last weekend.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lake County Forest Preserve Ranger Police at 847-968-3405.
