Autopsy results pending after teen found dead
Summer Mitchell was found dead in an apartment she shared with her boyfriend in south suburban Lansing.

LANSING, Ill. (WLS) -- The family of Summer Mitchell, 18, hopes to get answers about how she died.

She was found fatally shot Sunday morning in an apartment she shared with her boyfriend in the 17700-block of Commercial Avenue in south suburban Lansing.

As police continue to conduct a death investigation, they said they are looking at new information but have not released details. An autopsy was performed Monday, but the results are still pending.

Mitchell was the youngest of 15 children. Her father, Calvin Mitchell, is convinced his daughter was murdered. The family said they think Mitchell's boyfriend took off in her gold Grand Am. He hasn't been seen since.

"If indeed you didn't do anything, then why are you hiding? Why are you not here? It's just a lot of unanswered questions," said Andrew Holmes, a community activist related to the victim.

Mitchell spent several years at Kenwood Academy in Chicago before moving to Lansing. Her family said she was taking online classes to try to finish her high school diploma.

Her family said she was planning to move to Atlanta and hoped to become a police officer.
