SAUK VILLAGE, Ill. (WLS) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and three others were wounded in a shooting in Sauk Village in a strip mall parking lot in the 1700-block of Sauk Trail.
The Lake County Coroner said Nathaniel Burns Jr., 16, of Sauk Village, was pronounced dead at St. Margaret's Hospital in Dyer, Ind. His family said Thursday night he was an innocent victim of gun violence. The mother of the teen who was killed was too upset to talk on camera, but is pleading for anyone with information to come forward.
Police said the three men injured were all in their late teens and early 20s. Police said they responded to the scene after a 911 call and found two victims. The police chief estimates "several dozen" shots were fired about 1:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
"There was two groups of young male adults that got into an altercation, at which time, one of those male adults pulled a handgun from inside his pants and started shooting," said Chief Timothy Holevis, Sauk Village Police Department.
When police arrived, they saw Burns and two other young men with minor gunshot wounds. The three were transported to area hospitals.
"Thirty minutes later, we also had a fourth victim that was transported to the hospital by a friend," said Chief Holevis.
The chief says that victim is hospitalized in good condition.
Police are looking for a 2000 black 4-door Pontiac with Illinois license plate #V128344. Police said they believe a woman is driving the car with a male passenger.
It's violence some residents have tried to escape in Chicago.
"I moved away from what I'm walking home to now, so I'm not real happy about that," said Maria Flowers, former Chicago resident.
Sauk Village police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating.
Sources close to the investigation said that not only was the shooting captured on camera, but so was the black Pontiac car.
Also, at this time, it appears the shooting may have been retaliation from a previous situation
