CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 7-year-old boy was shot while sitting in his mother's car in Chicago's South Austin neighborhood.
Police said the vehicle was parked in the 1000-block of North Leamington Avenue around 10 p.m. Wednesday when someone opened fire. The boy was hit in the right shoulder.
His mother drove him to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. He was transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital, where he is recovering.
Police have not said whether the car was targeted or if the boy was struck by shots fired in the area. There is no description of the shooter or shooters.
No one is in custody. Area North detectives are investigating.
