CHICAGO (WLS) -- An Uber driver from Chicago woke up without a car Monday morning, but he can be thankful that's all he lost.

Mohamed Habeeb left his wife in the back seat of his Toyota Camry as he ran into a store in the city's Rogers Park neighborhood around 10:15am Sunday. He said that's when a thief jumped in.

Habeeb said the suspect threatened to kill her as he backed out of the spot in the 2200 block of West Devon Avenue and took off. Eventually, she was able to jump out of the car. The thief kept going.

"So in three minutes time, I think, all of the sudden I am hearing my wife running into the grocery shop saying, 'Somebody carjacked our car!'" Habeeb said.

Habeeb said he did not have GPS installed in his car.

Police confirm a beige sedan was stolen with someone still inside in the same location Sunday morning. The incident is under investigation.
