Chicago pastor wants DOJ investigation into police shootings

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago pastor wants a federal investigation into police shootings that result in the deaths of African Americans.

Rev. Paul Jakes of New Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church is calling on the Department of Justice to impanel a federal grand jury to look into the incidents. He says there is "a clear pattern and practice of the denial of civil and human rights" in those shootings.

"It is our hope that the officers through this grand jury will be held accountable individually, financially for what they have done," Rev. Jakes said.

The Chicago Police Department has not returned ABC7's call for a comment.
