Chicago students collect 3,000 pairs of shoes for homeless

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago high school athletes worked together to make sure thousands of homeless people have good shoes to wear.

Nearly 100 students from different high schools collected 3,000 pairs of shoes.

Over the weekend, the shoes were put on display outside the Willis Tower as part of a 9/11 memorial.

On Wednesday afternoon, the students will pair up with Franciscan Outreach to hand out those shoes to people in need at a shelter in the 2700-block of West Harrison Street in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood.

Franciscan Outreach serves nearly 2,500 people in need each month. The organization operates out of the city's Wicker Park neighborhood. To find out more about Franciscan Outreach, visit www.franoutreach.org.
