CHICAGO (WLS) -- Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart ended the lockdown at Cook County Jail on Tuesday. The lockdown had been put in place Monday after a staff shortage caused by Sunday's snowfall.
Dart said Monday that 36 percent of the jail staff did not report to work during Sunday and Monday shifts due to the snow. He said roughly 110 officers had been mandated to work overtime and compensate for the shortage.
Dart thanked the employees who worked extended hours to keep the jail operating.
