CPSC chairman calls for suspension of online hoverboard sales

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission is calling for the suspension of all online sales of hoverboards until the CPSC completes its safety investigation.

Chairman Elliot F. Kaye said in a statement he wants better testing and proof of safety of the devices. The popular toy has been linked to fires and falls across the country.

In his statement, Kaye praised Amazon for offering a full refund to anyone who bought a hoverboard on its website. He called on other retailers to do the same.

The CPSC is currently looking into hoverboards, also called smart boards or self-balancing boards, which are made or sold by:
