CHICAGO (WLS) -- One of the CTA's busiest stations is getting upgraded.

A $25 million federal grant will go toward improvements at the Garfield station.

That includes making the platform more accessible and installing public artwork.

The city calls the Garfield station a "key gateway" to the Washington Park neighborhood.

The upgrades are part of an ongoing effort to bring more economic opportunities to the South Side.

The current station serves nearly 475,000 riders each year and provides connections to the #55 Garfield bus.
