CHICAGO (WLS) -- The CTA said it will start upgrading its wireless communications in November.

The goal is to replace existing, outdated infrastructure that dates back to 2005 - before most of today's smartphones, tablets and social networks were developed.

The CTA board is expected to approve a contract next week that would allow the year-long project to begin.
