GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- A demolition project that could help revive communities in Gary, Indiana, is underway.

Crews started tearing down the first in a series of blighted properties there.

It's part of the "Indiana Hardest Hit Fund Blight Elimination Program."

The program is designed to help the government eliminate ruined properties to make room for green space or redevelopment.
