Fox Lake businesses balance grief and holiday prep
While there may be a sense of sadness permeating the town, Fox Lake is still encouraging visitors to come here during the holiday weekend.

FOX LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- Many businesses in Fox Lake are paying tribute to Lt. Gliniewicz. But while there may be a sense of sadness permeating the town, the town, known for its recreation, is still encouraging visitors to come here during the holiday weekend.

Route 12 Bar and Grill is a destination for locals and visitors alike, and this weekend, like other Chain O' Lakes venues, it's expected to be a gathering place to talk about Lt. Gliniewicz.

"They can all share their thoughts and tell us how they are feeling," says Jacqueline Homola, Route 12 Bar Manager. "It's good for everybody to be able to communicate with each other."

For many bars and restaurants the weekend will likely be about sharing their grief and convincing visitors to still drop by the area.

"This is the last big weekend the boaters are going to have and, you know, you should still come out," says Julie Shattuck. "Everybody needs that support and to be there for each other."

At local marinas like Fox Lake Harbor there is a warning for boat owners this weekend: take a close look before boarding and make sure nothing is amiss.

"When you have three guys on the loose that may be armed, be cautious," says Jim Moulis, owner of Fox Lake Harbor.

The owners of Pug Mahones are not concerned about making money this weekend. They're focused on catching the killers.

"We want Joe's killers to be caught," says owner Carol Burgess. "That's all we care about."

"We want them to pay for what they did to him. That's all," Karla Geier says.

Businesses are well aware that there have been more patrols and police presence in the area and say that only makes the community safer.
