Free CTA rides for CPS students
The city announces help to get Chicago Public Schools students to school as students return to class.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The city announces help to get Chicago Public Schools students to school as students return to class.

The CTA will offer free rides to every CPS student and accompanying adults on Tuesday, Sept. 6, which is the first day of school.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel started the program started six years ago, city officials said.

The goal of the program is to promote attendance on the first day.

For the rest of the school year, students and their parents are eligible to receive student reduced fares on school days.
